Giving to UNSW Law

In just 40 years, UNSW Law has become a leading teaching and research institution. Your support will ensure UNSW Law remains a leader in legal education. You can support the Faculty by donating your time to assist with one of our programs or by making a financial contribution.

I invite you to join our supporters and enjoy the rewards of being part of our great future. This year alumni are being asked to consider volunteering for the following programs, many of which are run by the UNSW Student Law Society.

Student Law Society Speakers Forum

Alumni are invited to share their interesting experiences or significant professional success by participating as speakers at the Student Law Societies regular Speakers Forum. Alumni are also invited to suggest speakers for speaker forum to the Alumni Education Sub-Committee.

Alternative Careers Guide

Alumni would fondly remember the quality publications produced by the Student Law Society. The Alternative Careers Guide is a publication that aims to raise awareness of alternative career paths that may be taken by law graduates. Alumni who have followed a less traditional career (including non law careers) are invited to share their perspective and personal experience by providing an entry for the Guide.

Mentoring

Alumni who wish to act as mentors for law students are invited to participate through the Student Law Society Headstart Mentoring Program.

Judges for Intermediate and Senior Mooting Competitions

Alumni are invited to nominate as judges for intermediate and senior level mooting competitions. Mooting competitions involve participants having one hour to prepare submissions relating to hypothetical legal issue. Judges are required to listen to legal submissions, ask appropriate questions which examine the submissions being made and make a final decision on which team is to progress to the next round of competition. Generally mooting competitions are held on weekday evenings. Alumni with mooting experience are particularly sought for this program.

Judges for the Negotiation, Witness Examination and Client Counselling Competitions

Alumni are invited to nominate as judges for these three competitions. These competitions focus on communication and oral skills and judges are required to examine a participants performance dependent on the particular competition. In particular we seek Alumni with previous experience in these competitions or those who have practised in areas requiring these skills.

Coaching for External Mooting Teams

Those who have experience as mooters or who have skills relevant to assisting the mooting teams are encouraged to apply.
