The Australia group is organised by Alumni Officer Susie Phe and the Law Alumni Chapter. Each year Law and Atax Alumni events take place both in Sydney and around the country. In addition to hosting Alumni events, the Australia group works closely with the UNSW student Law Society to provide mentors and speakers as well as joining them in an annual student/alumni event. There are currently around 10,000 Law Alumni living in Australia.

Australia Alumni Activities 2008
The ‘Originals’ (Class of ’76 & ’77, UNSW’s first Law graduates) gathered at UNSW on 27 February 2008. They came from the judiciary, from the big law firms and the suburban ones, from the international accounting firms, the bar, academia, government and business.
Prof Bob Deutsch hosted a lunch for Atax Alumni in Perth on 15 April.
Our first ‘Look Who’s Talking’ event on 31 July featured Adam Liberman (BCom/LLB ’76), General Counsel and General Manager of Intellectual Property at CSIRO. The event, hosted by Lynne Peach, Partner of Minter Ellison, bought together alumni, students and academics.
Prof David Dixon, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof Neil Warren, Head of Atax, met with Alumni in Melbourne on 26 August for evening drinks.
The second ‘Look Who’s Talking’ on 7 August featured Shemara Wikramanayake (BCom/LLB ’85), Head of Macquarie Funds Group, Steven Glanz (BCom/LLB ’78), Partner at Baker & McKenzie, and Professor Ross Buckley.
At the Atax Alumni Sydney CBD Lunch on 24 September, Professors Neil Warren and Chris Evans were joined by Alumni from private and large corporate tax practices, law firms and the ATO.
We finished the 2008 event calendar with the Faculty of Law’s ‘One-Year-Out’ Reunion at the Sky Phoenix Restaurant in Sydney where graduates from the classes of 2007 and 2008 enjoyed Yum Cha.
