Nick Carney - President [BCom/LLB '04]
Nick studied Commerce (Finance)/Law at UNSW between 1999-2004. During his time on campus he served as President of the UNSW Student Union, as a member of University Council and was involved in various aspects of the law school including the Law Society, the Law Faculty Board and the Law Revue as a director in 2003. Nick has been working as Executive Officer of New Matilda's Human Rights Act for Australia campaign. He commenced as a solicitor at Freehills in 2006.
Gabrielle C Upton – Vice President [BA LLB UNSW, MBA NYU, GAICD]
Gabrielle Upton was appointed Deputy Chancellor of the University of New South Wales in January 2006. She has served as a member of the University's Council since 2002 and also serves on its Finance, Nomination & Remuneration and Audit Committees and on the Australian Defence Force Academy Consultative Committee.
Gabrielle is Legal Counsel at the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Prior to that she worked in New York as an Assistant Vice President at Deutsche Bank and Toronto Dominion Bank, and in Sydney as a banking lawyer at Freehills and Phillips Fox. She is a member of the Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee, the Federal Government's advisory committee on corporations and securities law. She serves on the Board of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards in Australia, as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Gifted Education Research Resource and Information Centre (GERRIC) and the General Sir John Monash Foundation NSW Awards Committee.
Gabrielle holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from The University of New South Wales, a Master of Business Administration from New York University, New York and a Company Directors Advanced Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors
Yasser El-Ansary - Treasurer [MTax '03]
Yasser is a graduate of UNSW's postgraduate Master of Taxation program, which he completed in 2003. Yasser is currently a Senior Manager in the indirect tax practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers Sydney. Since completing his undergraduate degree in Commerce with the Australian National University in Canberra over eight years ago, Yasser's career has spanned various secondment roles whilst with PwC. Those roles have included being in-house tax manager for Rio Tinto Limited's operations in the Hunter Valley of NSW and a lead GST policy analyst at Commonwealth Treasury advising the Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer.
Yasser has been involved with the Law Alumni Committee since early 2005.
Gulfam Ahmed – Secretary, [LLB ‘06]
Gulfam graduated with a B.Comm (Accounting)/LLB in 2006. While at university he served as Vice President (Education) of the UNSW Law Society in 2005 as Secretary/Treasurer of the Student Guild in 2005, as Activities Director of the Student Guild in 2003 and as a Director on the UNSW Union Board of Directors from 2003-2005. He is currently working at Allens Arthur Robinson.
Lewis Chung - [BCom / LLB '06]
Lewis studied Commerce (Finance) and Law at UNSW. He is currently working for the global private equity investment arm of Merrill Lynch and was previously employed by the investment banking division of UBS. During his time at university, Lewis was involved in various student initiatives in both the law and commerce faculties.
Michael Gonski – Chair Social Sub-Committee [LLB ‘06]
Michael studied Arts (Modern Languages)/Law at UNSW between 2002-2006. While at university, Michael served as President of the UNSW Law Society. He commenced as a graduate solicitor at Freehills in 2007.
Robert Moses – Chair Education Sub-Committee [LLB ‘01]
While at UNSW Robert was a student member of the Faculty of Law in 1997 and 1999 and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Student Law Society in 1998. Robert is currently a Senior Associate at Holding Redlich specialising in planning and environmental law. Robert previously worked for another national law firm and the NSW Department of Planning. Robert is also a casual guest lecturer in planning law for town planning students in the Faculty of the Built Environment.
Janice Gray - Deans Representative
Janice is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law. She has published nationally and internationally on Native Title as well as nationally on Property, Equity and Water Law. Her book J Gray & B Edgeworth, Property Law in NSW was published by Butterworths LexisNexis Lexis Nexis in 2003 with a new edition in 2007. Janice also designed and teaches the Master of Laws subject, Water Law. She is on the International Advisory Board of the Canadian Native Studies Journal, a co-editor of the Human Rights Defender, on the Property Committee of the NSW Law Society, a member of the Kensington Group and is an Associate of the Australian Human Rights Centre and the Gilbert and Tobin Centre for Public Law. Presently, her key research interest is on the regulation and management of water sources. Her recent work includes research into sewer mining and private access to public infrastructure. She is a graduate of the Faculties of Law, Arts and Education, at the University of New South Wales. Before becoming a full time academic she worked as a solicitor in a large corporate firm.

Francisco (Frank) Esparraga [BJuris
LLB '78; LLM '93 Syd]
Frank was in the Faculty's third graduating class. Specialising in Administrative Law, he has worked in both State and Federal Government Departments, including the Attorney-General's and ICAC and as a part-time member of the CTTT. He is a committee member of the Australian Institute of Administrative Law. He is Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, University of Notre Dame, Sydney. He is also the Supervising Examiner and Lecturer in Administrative Law at the Legal Profession Admission Board.
Timothy Dalton – [BTax ‘05]
Timothy graduated with a Bachelor of Taxation from UNSW in 2005. He served as the student representative on the Atax Board of Taxation in 2003 & 2004. He is currently employed as a Senior Consultant in the Tax & Law division of Ernst & Young in Sydney. Timothy has also previously worked with the Australian Taxation Office.
Jason Elias - [BA/LLB '92]
Jason completed Law at UNSW in 1995. He was actively involved in the Student Law Society and was a student Member of Faculty. Upon graduation Jason's legal career spanned Sydney, Jakarta and New York. His focus was banking and then information technology law with a large international law firm.
After several years of practice, Jason established a boutique Legal Recruitment Consultancy in May 2000. His focus is on assisting with career development and placement of lawyers within Sydney, interstate and overseas. His company, Elias Recruitment is also a proud sponsor of the UNSW Law Alumni

Danny graduated with a B.Comm (Hons)/LLB in 2006. Whilst at university he served as Vice President (Marketing) of the UNSW Law Society in 2005 and as a student member of the Law Faculty Board. He is currently working in the Investment Banking Division at UBS.
