Postgraduate Human Rights
The Human Rights Internship Program offers postgraduate Human Rights Law & Policy students the opportunity to undertake the placement component of the course with an organisation that has a focus on the protection and promotion of human rights.
This course is offered to all postgraduate Human Rights Law & Policy students in the below programs:
- Master of Human Rights Law & Policy (9211)
- Graduate Diploma in Human Rights Law & Policy (5211)
Note: Students will only be permitted to undertake one internship course as part of their degree.
What does the course involve?
Under the supervision of a member of the Partner Organisation and the Law Faculty, students will gain valuable experience in research, analysis, writing and advocacy on aspects of law, policy and practice relating to human rights. Interns are required to undertake the equivalent of one full day each week (for 12 weeks) of work at their Partner Organisation during session and to complete their project in close consultation with their Partner Organisation. Interns may also choose to do a block placement in summer or winter at an international or remote host organisation. read more
When does the course run?
The course runs every semester (S1, S2 and Summer), with applications opening mid-semester the session before the course commences.
There is also the option of taking the course over the winter break (this is especially popular for international or remote placements). Winter interns will be enrolled in S2.
How do I apply?
To apply please read the Application Process, (also for self-organised internships). Student can choose an organisation/s from the list of participating host organisations (indicated above) and complete the Application Form.

- Summer applications will open at 10am on Monday 15 August and close at 9am on Tuesday 23 August
- S1 2017 applications will open at 10am on Monday 29 August and close at 9am on Tuesday 6 September
