Overseas Electives

UNSW Law has partnered with several overseas institutions to offer UNSW Law students opportunities to participate in various elective courses. Each course is worth 6 units of credit towards the completion of a UNSW Law degree program.

Currently, there are opportunities for UNSW Law students to participate in overseas electives in China, Chile, and the United States in 2019. Information about each course available is listed on this page. Links to material with further information and instructions on when the course takes place, how to apply, and when to apply will be provided in due course.

The following Overseas Electives will run in 2019:

LAWS3345/ JURD7645 / LAWS8345 China International Business and Economic Law (6 UOC) - Beijing, China

This course will be taught in conjunction with Tsinghua University and will be held during the break between Term 1 and Term 2 (exact dates TBC). 

Students who participate in this program will have this course credited towards their Term 2 enrolment.

Open to: Eligible students enrolled in the following programs

  • Dual Law / Graduate Law (LLB)
  • Juris Doctor (9150)
  • All Law Masters Programs

Dual Law / Graduate Law (LLB) students will need to have completed at least 78UOC of LAWS courses and JD students will need to have completed 72UOC of JURD courses.

 

LAWS3348 / JURD7648 / LAWS8348 Transitional Justice in International and Comparative Perspectives (6 UOC) - Santiago, Chile

This course will be taught in conjunction with Diego Portales University and will be held during the break between Term 2 and Term 3 (exact dates TBC). 

Students who participate in this program will have this course credited towards their Term 2 enrolment.

Open to: Eligible students enrolled in the following programs

  • Dual Law / Graduate Law (LLB)
  • Juris Doctor (9150)
  • All Law Masters Programs

LAWS3123 / JURD7323/ LAWS8135 Chinese Legal System (6 UOC) - Shanghai, China

This course will be taught in conjunction with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and will be held during the break between Term 2 and Term 3 (exact dates TBC). 

Students who participate in this program will have this course credited towards their Term 2 enrolment.

LAWS3087/ JURD7787 Introduction to the American Legal System (6 UOC) - Berkeley, California, U.S.A.

This course will be taught at the University of California, Berkeley and will be held in late September/early October (exact dates TBC). 

Students who participate in this program will have this course credited towards their Term 3 enrolment.

Open to: Eligible students enrolled in the following programs

  • Dual Law / Graduate Law (LLB)
  • Juris Doctor (9150)
