 Gaire Blunt Scholarship     

The Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia is offering the Gaire Blunt Scholarship to commemorate Gaire Blunt who was a leading competition law practitioner and a partner at Allen Allen & Hemsley (now Allens Arthur Robinson) from 1970 – 2005.

The scholarship is aimed at persons at a junior stage of their career in Australia.  To apply for the scholarship lawyers will need to submit a paper on a competition law topic of no more than 10,000 words by 31 December 2009.

with Professor Frances Raday

Frances Raday holds the Lieberman Chair in Labour Law at the Hebrew University and is Director of the Concord Research Institute for Integration of International Law in Israel. She was Chair of the Lafer Centre for Women Studies and of the Academic Committee of the Minerva Centre for Human Rights and Chief Editor of the Israel Law Review. She has been counsel in key legal proceedings on labour and discrimination issues and from 2000 - 2003, she was an Expert Member of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.

 History and Theory of International Law-Summer Course     
Dr Ulf Linderfalk from Lund University, Sweden will be teaching the course on History and Theory of International Law during summer session with a particular focus on the fragmentation of international law. This course is a postgraduate course but it is also open to a limited number of undergraduate students. Dr Linderfalk is a leading Scandinavian expert on the interpretation of treaties. His book, On the Interpretation of Treaties (Springer Verlag, 2007), was nominated for the European Society of International Law's Book Prize in 2008. Dr Linderfalk's current research focuses on international law and the use of force, and the concept of peremptory international law (jus cogens). The LawMSN program aims to ease the transition of new students into the UNSW Law School environment. It seeks to increase awareness about the unique culture of Law School and build confidence by creating opportunities to meet new people. As a mentor you will meet with students on a regular basis and play a vital role in the transition of new students. Its also an awesome way to meet new people, both in terms of other mentors and a bunch of first year law students.
