Experiential Learning Course Application Form - Law Clinics and Publications and Journals Internships

Term 1 2019 Round 1 applications have closed. Application outcomes have been released. Term 1 2019 Round 2 applications open at 10am on Tuesday 16 October 2018 and close at 9am on Monday 29 October 2018.

Please ensure you address the selection criteria set out by the host organisation (available on the Host Organisation Information List) and attach this to your application. 

Please note that your student email address will be used to correspond with you. It is your responsibility to check your student UNSW Email account on a regular basis.

A great deal of time and resources is expended to organise these placements. For this reason you cannot unenrol from the course without the permission of the Course Convenor. Please keep this in mind before applying for the course.

You need to have completed 78uoc of LAWS courses or 72uoc of JURD courses to be eligible to apply.

In the event that a student makes multiple applications, only one offer will be made. If a student declines this offer, they will not be made another offer regardless of the outcome(s) of other applications.
Note: Students are not allowed to repeat the same course code in one degree, even if it is with a different host organisation.

Application Documents

Write a 500 word (maximum) Statement of Interest for your first preference organisation. Please include your response to their selection criteria (check the Host Organisation Information list to see if your preferred organisation published their criteria), why you are particularly interested in the organisation and how your skills, experience and study make you a suitable candidate for this internship. Be aware that this statement is read by the host organisation of your choice and is an important part of the selection process. Please also include a CV and MyUNSW Academic Statement.

Please note that if you wish to apply for more than one organisation you must complete the application form again.

Please upload ONE pdf. document with: (1) your statement of interest; (2) your resume (no more than 2 pages); (3) your transcript (this can be downloaded from MyUNSW).

Please have each section starting on a different page. Name the document 'your zID_surname_hostorganisation'. For example if John Smith was applying to the National ProBono Centre (NPBC), his document would be saved as 'z0000000_smith_npbc'. Please make sure all documents are attached. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Enrolment in the Experiential Learning course

All selected interns will be enrolled in their Experiential Learning course by Law Academic Services once placement is confirmed at point of class registration. 

 

Overload

Given that internship placements may be finalised after your enrolment appointment, you may exceed the maximum UOC allowed per term with your Experiential Learning course, which is 18 UOC per term over Terms 1, 2 and 3 and 6 UOC over Summer or a total of 60 UOC in a calendar year. 

If you already have a full enrolment load for the term then you cannot be enrolled into the internship course until you have dropped one of your other courses.

You will need to comply with UNSW Law’s Overload Policy.  Student Services will be able to answer your queries about overloading.
