Please note: Semester 2, 2018 is your last chance to enrol in this postgraduate program. From Term 1, 2019 it will be replaced with a new Master of Laws (LLM), open to students from law and non-law backgrounds.

Program overview

The Master of Business Law has been designed for non-lawyers involved in the private, commercial, government or international sectors where business law issues are relevant to their employment.

Students can tailor the program to their needs by completing a generalist degree or choosing to specialise in one of the following areas: Corporate & Commercial Law; Corporate, Commercial & Taxation Law; Innovation Law; International Business & Economic Law; Media & Technology Law; Taxation.

Program structure

Students must complete compulsory courses with the remaining units of credit selected from the broad range of elective courses on offer at UNSW Law and the Australian School of Business to compliment their chosen stream.  Core courses: Legal Concepts, Research & Writing for Business Law; Legal Foundations of Business (no prior legal studies); Corporations & Business Associations Law (no prior legal studies). Students who have previously completed legal studies at university may be eligible to undertake elective courses in place of Legal Foundations of Business and Corporations & Business Associations Law.

Note: Students who have completed 36 UOC but become unable to complete their Masters program may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Business Law.

  • Undergraduate non-law degree - minimum credit average (65% or higher) as determined by the UNSW Postgraduate Coursework Entry Calculator OR
  • Undergraduate non-law degree with with minimum two years' relevant professional experience.
