Entry
There are a number of entry pathways to study Law at UNSW.
Direct entry
Direct Entry is based on the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), or equivalent, which was 99.65 in 2011.
The ATAR is a number between 0 and 99.95 with increments of 0.05. It provides a measure of a student's overall academic achievement in the NSW HSC in relation to that of other students, and helps universities rank applicants for selection. The ATAR is a rank, not a mark. It is calculated on behalf of the universities and released by UAC.
Transfer entry
Internal Program Transfer allows first year UNSW students to apply to transfer into the Law dual degree program.
Transfer Entry allows university students at other universities to apply via UAC to transfer into the Law dual degree program.
Access entry
Access Entry allows successful applicants with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), or equivalent, below the course cut-off to compete for a place.
Special consideration for applicants with tertiary study (SCATS)
Applicants with tertiary study who feel they have experienced some degree of disadvantage or misadventure either during their schooling and/or during their tertiary studies which has resulted in poor grades must lodge a SCATS application form.
Applicants must also apply through UAC for admission to UNSW.
Indigenous Students Pre-Law Program
The Indigenous Students Pre-Law Program is an intensive four week program held at the UNSW Law School. The course is designed for Indigenous students who have either been offered a place in law, or who wish to apply to study law in the future. Students study introductory courses in the areas of legal process, contract law, Indigenous legal issues, and academic skills so as to get a feeling for the law and a head start in their legal studies.
Enquiries can be directed to the Nura Gili Indigenous Programs Centre.
