Scholarships and Awards

There is a range of scholarships and awards available for UNSW Law LLB students including specific Law School scholarships and awards, as well as University-wide scholarships that are open to Law School students.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of scholarships and awards available to UNSW Law students undertaking the undergraduate LLB program.  Selection criteria vary between scholarships and may be based on academic merit, financial need, extra-curricular contribution and potential to contribute to the wider life of the university and/or leadership skills. AGS UNSW Indigenous Law Scholarship
A $7,000 scholarship and offer of casual employment for an Indigenous student.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above; JD students.

Class of 84/85 James McLachlan Memorial Scholarship
$7,000/year for duration of undergraduate program.  This scholarship is intended to encourage outstanding students from a low income background to study Law at UNSW.  Open to high school leavers. 

Daniel Solomons Memorial Scholarship
A $4,000 scholarship for one year established to make the study of law accessible to students who demonstrate personal courage; seeking knowledge and enlighenment despite personal and financial challenges.  Open to high school leavers.

Dixon Family Scholarship
A $3,500 scholarship established to encourage and assist students to undertake any combined undergraduate program in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and Law at UNSW.  Open to LLB students in 2nd year.

Dorothy Hughes Memorial Scholarship
A $4,000 scholarship established to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to undertake study at UNSW Law.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above.

John W Kirkwood Memorial Scholarship

A $3,000 scholarship, established to encourage and assist students in financial need to undertake study in the Law dual degree program at UNSW.  Open to LLB students.

Lilian Cohen Memorial Scholarships
2 x $5,000 scholarships, established to encourage and assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake study in the Law dual degree program at UNSW.  Open to high school leavers; 1st year LLB students.

Marie Swan Memorial Award
$5,000 per year for the duration of the LLB program.  This scholarship was established to encourage and assist students experiencing economic or social disadvantage, including geographic isolation, to undertake study in the Law dual degree program at UNSW.  Open to high school leavers.

Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship
$5,000 per year for the duration of the program.  This scholarship was established to support a socio-economically disadvantaged student who has completed their schooling in a non-selective, public secondary school located in south-west Sydney.  Open to high school leavers.

Paul Doneley Memorial Scholarship
A $3,000 scholarship, established to assist Indigenous students to undertake study at UNSW Law.  Open to high school leavers; LLB students; JD students.

Potishko Family Goldman Sachs Gives Science/Law Scholarship
$7,000 per year for the duration of the LLB program for a high-achieving Science/Law student from a low income background.  Open to high school leavers. 

Scientia Scholarships
$10,000 per year for the duration of the LLB program.  These scholarships were established to encourage students who achieve an ATAR or equivalent of 99.90 or above in an Australian Year 12 qualification to undertake full-time undergraduate study at UNSW.  This scholarship is for high school leavers.

UNSW Law Students of 2015 Scholarship
A $5,000 scholarship for one year, supported by the UNSW Law students of 2015 to allow a disadvantaged student to study at the Law School.  Open to high school leavers.

Academic Achievement Awards
These Awards are provided to encourage academically gifted local HSC (or equivalent) students from NSW and ACT high schools to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW Law.  

Danielle Sirmai Memorial Scholarship
$5,000 to undertake an overseas internship or course of study relating to international commercial arbitration or private international law.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above; JD students.

Joy van Ardenne Memorial Award
$1,000 to undertake an overseas internship.  Open to LLB students in 3rd and above; JD students in 2nd year and above.

Louise Brown Memorial Award
$3,000 to undertake an oveaseas internship to conduct field work, advocacy or research, in order to promote or protect human rights.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above.

Rodolfo Velasco Award in International Law and Development
$2,500 to undertake an overseas internship or course of study in Asia relating to international law and development.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above; JD students. 

Sternberg Family Scholarship - Internship Award
$5,000 for a student completing a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws combined degree majoring in Film Studies/Law or Art Theory/Law, which includes visual arts, or in a wider field of creative arts within the combined Arts/Law program (such as media, music, theatre), to undertake an internship with an international arts-related organisation.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above.

UNSW Law Foundation Class Award
$2,500 to undertake an overseas internship.  Open to LLB students in 3rd year and above.

The UNSW Law Society Award 
An award of $5,000, established to encourage students with the potential to make a significant contribution to the UNSW Law School community to undertake the UNSW Law dual degree program.  Open to high school leavers; LLB students in 1st year.
