The UNSW JD is open to applicants who have completed, or are in their final year and about to complete, a Bachelor degree in any discipline other than law. Applicants who are currently completing their Bachelor degree must have ‘potential graduand’ status with their home institution before offers are finalised.
Selection into the UNSW JD is based on academic merit and candidates will be assessed on the basis of their academic results in completed tertiary study only. There are no additional selection criteria.
UNSW will offer Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) and also full-fee places in the JD. Commonwealth Supported Places will be offered to the most competitive applicants and the remaining eligible applicants will be offered a full-fee place in the JD program.
Those who have a degree in law from a different legal system may also apply for the UNSW JD.
Transfer students
We welcome applications from law students wishing to transfer to the UNSW JD from other universities. Students should apply via UAC Postgraduate (refer How to Apply page).
A maximum of 48 units of credit (1 year full time) may be awarded for completed law studies. As the UNSW JD is a new program, transfer students will likely share classes with continuing (ie. non-first year) UNSW JD and Graduate Law students.
English language proficiency requirements
Applicants who do not have a university degree undertaken and assessed in English, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the requirements for admission.
