Postgraduate Research Programs

All commencing Research students are required to complete a 3 day introductory course on Postgraduate Legal Research.

A Doctoral degree is recognition of successful research experience. The candidate must make a distinct contribution to knowledge – of fact and/or theory. For a doctorate, considerably more original work is required than for a masters research degree.

Equivalent to a PhD, the SJD is among the highest forms of degree that a university can award. The SJD degree provides an opportunity to combine a doctoral thesis with the coursework component of LLM degree and allows significant research into an area of interest developed within the coursework program.

This program is designed primarily as a training course in advanced work. Candidates learn the fundamentals of research and acquire certain new techniques.
