International exchange

Completing one, two or three terms of your law degree program at an overseas institution is both a culturally rewarding and intellectually enriching experience. Students are eligible to go on Exchange in their fourth or fifth year for Undergraduate or during the second or third year of a Juris Doctor program.

Information Sessions

The International Exchange office conducts information meetings just before the opening of each applicatoin period. The meetings focus on a different region (for example USA, Europe, UK, Asia, Latin America) and covers relevant general information. For details of when and where the information meetings are offered, please visit the UNSW International Exchange website.

A specific information session is held every term for Law students. Details will be published on the Law students' notice board and on this web page. 

Key Dates

  • May: Application deadline for departure in Term 1 of the next year.
  • October: Application deadline for departure in Term 3 of the next year.

Application Process

Applications are now open for T3 2019 through the Moodle Exchange Tutorial and the deadline is 5pm on Friday, 5 October 2018 (late applications are accepted until 5pm on Friday, 12 October 2018 with an additional late application fee of $110. Please email if you are unable to meet the on time deadline. Student Exchange applications take approximately nine months to process so students need to apply at least nine months before they wish to go on exchange.

You may wish to contact the Associate Dean (International) Gabrielle Appleby ( prior to lodging your application to discuss your proposed destination and to ensure you select a place that fits your goals and interests. 

JD and LLB Exchange Information Sheets 

Students wishing to go on exchange as part of their Bachelor of Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor program should read the appropriate information sheet below carefully as it contains information specific to their program.

IMPORTANT: Effective from S1 2013, research essays completed while on Exchange will NOT be accepted for the purpose of Law Honours Nomination.
