Rise in child and teen fraud arrests mainly due to increase of internet-based crimes

Professor Alex Steel comments in The Daily Telegraph (12 April 2015) on the jump in online fraud offences committed by people under 18 years old.

Professor Alex Steel said cyber crime was a new form of theft that teenagers were increasingly using.

“It’s not surprising because if there’s a computer in your room, you don’t even have to leave the house to test the boundaries of authority,” Professor Steel said.

“When you steal money online, you don’t do it by stealing, you do it by fraud.”
