Associate Professor Chris Michaelsen speaks to the Australian New Express Daily

Associate Professor Chris Michaelsen was interviewed by the Australian New Express Daily (15 October 2015) about the recent threats made against UNSW. Responding to comments made by NSW Premier Mike Baird, Michaelsen argued against introducing further anti-terrorism laws in Australia as they are already among the strictest of any Western democracy. Stating that no specific details were available yet regarding the UNSW threat, Michaelsen did not believe that there was reason for panic. He considered the general terrorism threat in Australia to be rather low and had not seen any evidence of significant radicalisation among Australia's youth. His view was that the situation was not comparable to some of the radicalisation developments in places like the United Kingdom and France, and that the recent Parramatta shooting, while tragic, appeared to be an isolated incident.
