NSW Government terror plans under scrutiny

Professor Andrew Lynch speaks to ABC's PM program about the NSW Government's proposal to extend the amount of time a terror suspect can be detained from eight days to 28 days.

Professor Lynch says he suspects the 28 day period was "pitched at a maximum level" to allow for political debate.

"Twenty-eight days is an extraordinarily long period of time to hold anybody on the suspicion that they have been involved in a criminal activity, and to question them with a view to discovering that.

"And the potential for those powers to be misused is something that all governments and all populations should be very alive to."
