Linda Pearson appointed Commissioner of the Land & Environment Court

NSW Attorney General John Hatzistergos has announced the appointment of Linda Pearson as a Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court. Linda is a Senior Lecturer at UNSW Law School and an alumnus of both UNSW and Sydney University. Dean of UNSW Faculty of Law, Professor David Dixon, congratulated Linda on her appointment as Commissioner. `This appointment is a great achievement and appropriate recognition of Linda`s skill and expertise,` he said. Linda`s expertise is in planning, environmental, local government, resources and administrative law. She has been a legal or judicial member of a number of administrative review tribunals including the Social Security Appeals Tribunal and the Migration Review Tribunal, and is currently a part-time judicial member of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal. While at UNSW Law School, Linda has taught classes in Administrative Law and Environmental Law and has been Chair of the Law School`s Undergraduate Education Committee. She has co-authored two of the leading books on planning and environmental law in NSW: Lyster et al Environmental and Planning Law in New South Wales (2007; second edition 2009), Federation Press; and Farrier et al Environmental Law Handbook (3rd ed, 1999). Since 1990, she has also been the Natural Resources Editor of Australian Administrative Law. The Land and Environment Court of New South Wales has an appellate and a review jurisdiction in relation to planning, environmental and ancillary matters. Linda`s appointment as a Commissioner is for a seven year term.
