Human Rights on the table
Graeme Innes, Human Rights Commissioner and Disability Discrimination Commissioner
On 1 July 2009, students from across Sydney joined human rights experts, practitioners and advocates, and Faculty of Law staff to explore how human rights impact on our everyday lives at the Faculty of Law Human Rights Round-Table. The event featured an address by Graeme Innes, Human Rights Commissioner and Disability Discrimination Commissioner. This gave students food for thought as they moved into working groups to explore a broad range of issues including education, the death penalty, housing, terrorism, climate change, the right to a fair trial, labour rights, women`s rights and crime. UNSW Faculty of Law is known for its commitment to Human Rights and Social Justice. Against the backdrop of the national consultation on human rights protection the `Round-Table` provided inspiration for students to engage in this important area of the law.
