Competition and Bank Mergers in China

Associate Professor Deborah Healey and Associate Professor Zhang Chenying of Tsinghua University Beijing have launched their report, The Chinese Anti-Monopoly Law: Lessons for Australian Banks and Chinese Regulators.

The Report was funded by the Centre for International Financial Regulation.

The report concluded that competition was unlikely to be a significant factor in bank mergers in China, given the wording of the Anti-Monopoly Law, the nature of banking regulation and the political economy of China.
