The Peer Tutor Program is a program available to students in their first year in the Law School. The aim of the peer tutor program is to facilitate students’ development of understanding and legal skills to the point of independent learning. The program is available free of charge to any student who needs it, but particularly to students for whom English is a second language.

If you join the Peer Tutor Program you can expect to meet with a senior student for about one to two hours per week . This is an opportunity to practise for class participation, to deal with materials that you find difficult and to practise your legal skills such as case-reading and statutory interpretation. It is expected that students will join the program for between six to eight weeks depending on how they are going in their legal studies.

Teachers of first year students may suggest that you join the program if it would be of benefit. Major times for joining the program throughout the year are after pieces of assessment have been returned. Students for whom English is a second language are encouraged to join the program as soon as classes begin.

The Convenor of the program is Prue Vines, Director of First Year Studies in the Law School.

Case-Reading Exercise
A set of exercises in case-reading is available here both to individual students and for use in the peer tutor program. They are designed to develop your skills in the case-reading and legal analysis.
