PhD Candidate

Nana commenced her PhD at UNSW in 2015. She is an experienced lawyer, having worked as an Associate to the Hon. Justice Sackville in the Federal Court of Australia, and as a solicitor in both private practice and government. At Herbert Smith Freehills, she worked on major transactions as well as significant commercial litigation. From Freehills Nana went on to complete her LLM at Columbia University, focusing on human rights and international law. She subsequently joined the Office of International Law at the Attorney-General’s Department. As a Senior Legal Officer, she advised the Commonwealth Government on a range of public international law matters, with a particular focus on international human rights law. Nana also worked on the successful defence of Philip Morris’ challenge to Australia’s tobacco plain packaging laws. She was a member of Australia’s legal team at the arbitration hearing held in Singapore under the Hong-Kong Australia Bilateral Investment Treaty. Nana’s current research reflects her interests in corporate accountability and international human rights law.
