I have been a member of the UNSW Law School teaching staff since 1973, with the exception of a 3 year period in the late 1980s, when I was the NSW Attorney General`s senior policy advisor. I will move to part time teaching duties in 2006, teaching Advanced Administrative Law (LAWS2282) in the Winter Session as an "intensive" course.
I have also taught Legal System-Torts, Litigation, Issues in Evidence, and Administrative Law.
I have written and published extensively on various topics in several areas. I co-authored the first six editions of Litigation: Evidence and Procedure (Butterworths, Sydney). I wrote a reform report for the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration titled Managing Complex Criminal Trials: Reform of the Rules of Evidence and Procedure (1992), and wrote a review of the NSW Racial Vilification laws in 1992. I have also written and published extensively in the area of Administrative Law. My current text book in that area is co-authored with Bruce Dyer and Matthew Groves, and is titled Judicial Review of Administrative Action (3rd ed, LBC, Sydney, 2004). I previously co-authored a book on Public Torts and Contracts (LBC, 1982, Sydney). I have also written numerous articles, reviews and conference papers.
I am now focusing all my research efforts into Administrative Law. I intend to keep the Judicial Review book up to date, and I also write articles in that area, and on issues emerging from government outsourcing and privatisation. I love supervising research students in those areas. Inquiries welcome!
