Overview
I joined the Faculty in January 2007, having previously been led a research centre into global trade & finance at another Australian University for six years. Since 2004 I have also been closely involved in the Research Network of Australia 21 entitled, “Enhancing Australia’s Security and Prosperity in the 21st Century”. As an academic, I have consulted to banks, finance houses and government departments, including the U.S. SEC and Department of Justice, the Australian Tax Office, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance and the Vietnamese Ministry of Trade. Before becoming an academic, I practised banking and finance law in Australia and Hong Kong and on Wall Street for nine years
Research Interests
My principal focus been on the international financial system and its impact on developing countries in general and the poor in developing countries in particular. Of late this interest has broadened into a focus on global governance, and how the international trade, financial and other governance systems interact.
Current Research Projects
Debt for development exchanges as a means of enhancing the effectiveness of Australian aid and debt relief.
Strategies to promote the full participation of developing countries in the international financial system.
