Overview

I have been a member of the academic staff at the UNSW Law School since 1989. During that time I have taught and convened the compulsory courses Property and Equity (LAWS3010), Property, Equity and Trusts 1 (LAWS1081), Property and Equity 2 (LAWS1082), Legal System-Torts (LAWS1120), Legal Theory (LAWS8320) and Legal Research and Writing I (LAWS7410). I also teach and am responsible for the undergraduate elective Housing Law (LAWS2413) and the postgraduate course (LAWS 4013 Housing Law. I am currently supervising a number of PhDs in these areas. I was formerly the School’s Director of Teaching (1997-2000), and Associate Dean (Undergraduate) (1999-2001).

My research interests span most of the areas in which I teach, as is reflected in my most recent publications: Law, Modernity, Postmodernity: Legal Change in the Contracting State, Ashgate, Aldershot, UK (2003); Property Law in New South Wales, 2nd ed, LexisNexis, Sydney, 2007 (with Janice Gray, Scott Grattan and Neil Foster); and Sackville and Neave: Property Law – Cases and Materials, 7th ed, LexisNexis, Sydney (2004) (with Chris Rossiter and Justice Margaret Stone). In addition, I research and publish in the areas of law and social theory, and legal history. I am actively involved in the reform of housing law and property law. I am a member of the Board of the Tenants Union of New South Wales.
