Overview

Devika Hovell is Director of the International Law Project at the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law, and lectures in public international law, international humanitarian law and international dispute settlement. She worked previously in the Legal Department at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and as Legal Assistant to Professor Alain Pellet at the United Nations International Law Commission in Geneva. She was Associate to Justice Hayne at the High Court of Australia and worked as a solicitor at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks in Melbourne and Perth. Devika has a Master of Laws from New York University, and was awarded the George Colin Award, the overall prize for the General Masters program. She graduated with First Class Honours from her undergraduate law degree at the University of Western Australia.

Devika publishes, provides legal advice and media commentary on issues of international law, the use of force, international humanitarian law and human rights law. She is a member of the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Advisory Committee and the Australian Human Rights Centre.
