Ed Santow is a Senior Lecturer in law at the University of New South Wales. He teaches Administrative Law, Federal Constitutional Law and Public Law. Ed is the Director of the Charter of Human Rights Project at the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law.
Ed serves as a Legal Adviser to the Legislation Review Committee of the NSW Parliament. This Committee has a statutory responsibility to scrutinise Bills of Parliament and to report to the Parliament on whether these Bills unduly trespass on human rights or fundamental principles of democratic government. Ed is currently a member of the Management Committee of the Refugee Advice and Casework Service. He also represents Australasia on the Steering Committee for the Global Alliance for Justice Education.
Ed was previously a legal officer at the Australian Law Reform Commission, where he worked on the inquiries into Privacy, Sedition and Evidence. He served as National Expert (Australia) for the European Union’s MEDIS project on anti-discrimination law and practice. He has also held the positions of solicitor at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, and Associate to Justice Heydon of the High Court of Australia.

Research Interests
Ed’s main areas of interest are Human Rights, Administrative Law and Constitutional Law. In particular, he has worked on anti-discrimination law, privacy law, anti-terrorism law and refugee law.
