Overview
Dr Tyrone Kirchengast joined the Faculty of Law in February 2009. He previously lectured at the University of Newcastle from 2003-2007, and Macquarie University from 2007-2009. His principal teaching and research interests lie in criminal law and procedure and his publications focus on the integration of victim interests within the criminal law. His recent work focuses on the role of victim impact statements in sentencing homicide offenders.
In 2009, Dr Kirchengast will present at the 13th International Symposium on Victimology in Mito, Japan, and has been invited to guest lecture in the School of Criminology, University of Montreal, Canada, on victimology and human rights.

Research Interests
Criminal law and procedure; criminology; victims of crime (especially victim impact statements and sentencing, victim`s compensation; and victim`s rights); proportionate sentencing; drug misuse and trafficking; Foucault, law and governance.
Current Research Projects
Faculty Research Grant (2009) `Reconceptualising the Criminal Trial in History and Discourse`.
Journal Affiliations
Dr Kirchengast has reviewed articles for various national and international law journals including the Law and Society Review; Legal History; University of New South Wales Law Journal; Newcastle Law Review.
