Exchange Student - Boston College School of Law
"Exchange was characterised by constant new experiences"

I touched down on New Year's Eve 2009 in the frozen New York City, ready to start my 2010 year with a bang. After exploring New York City, Washington and Philadelphia over a week, I took the three hour bus to Boston College in Massachusetts, US, my home for a semester. And what a home it was!

From watching the Boston College ice hockey team take out the national championship title, road trips to Cape Cod, several Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins games, and rowing the Charles River, exchange was characterised by constant new experiences.

My time at Boston College law school, one of the nation's best law schools, provided a great academic groundwork for my future as a lawyer. I had fantastic and inspiring teachers, which included the architect of a huge section of the national Uniform Commercial Code. I took a law elective called Art Law. I was also was given opportunities to participate in many mock trial competitions.

It was a different experience to law school at UNSW because US law schools are graduate schools, so some students had founded businesses, established an academic career in other fields or started a family before going on to study law. I felt humbled to be among the high calibre of students, but the students were very warm and welcoming. I formed many lasting friendships.
