Victor Lam, UNSW Law’s inaugural recipient of the Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship, celebrated his graduation at a ceremony in June 2017.

The Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship was established in 2011 in memory of Tram Nguyen and aims to support a socio-economically disadvantaged student who has completed their schooling in a non-selective, public secondary school located in south-west Sydney.

Victor Lam started at UNSW Law in 2012 undertaking a dual degree of Commerce and Law.

Victor said that the scholarship opened new opportunities to study law and travel that he did not have before. “The scholarship provided me with an opportunity to study law in Shanghai. It was an eye-opening experience because it was the first time I got to travel overseas, take in a new culture, challenge perspectives and expand my horizons”.

Victor is now looking to life after university, “I'm currently working in tax - dealing with both aspects of my commerce and law degree. There are also plans to travel overseas!”

Having held five Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship dinners, bringing together the local community, high school students, the profession, judges, ministers and members of UNSW Law, the faculty can now offer a Ngoc Tram Nguyen scholarship to a new student every year.
