Dr Aline Jaeckel
PhD, UNSW, 2015
LLM, Leiden University (Netherlands), 2011
LLB, UWE Bristol (UK), 2009
Dr Aline Jaeckel is a Lecturer at UNSW Law and a recipient of an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA). She is also an Honorary Senior Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong. Her work focuses on marine environmental management, ocean governance, law of the sea, and international environmental law. Aline has a particular research interest in the emerging regulation of deep seabed mineral mining and is the author of ‘The International Seabed Authority and the Precautionary Principle’ (Brill, 2017). Aline sits on the editorial board of Marine Policy and the advisory board to the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative, a global interdisciplinary network of researchers focused on science-policy engagement in ocean governance.
Aline previously worked as a Research Fellow at Macquarie Law School, funded by the Macquarie University Research Fellowship scheme, as well as the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies in Potsdam, Germany, for a project on ecological parameters for deep seabed mining. Aline holds a PhD from UNSW, an LLM from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and an LLB from UWE Bristol in the UK.
